Pillow Wear™ Pillow Protectors

Pillow Protectors

Pillow protectors extend the life of a pillow by providing an extra layer of defense against wear and tear, moisture, dust, oils from body and hair, allergens, and pests.

Many pillow protectors on the market are waterproof, mite-proof and bed-bug proof. They provide excellent, heavy-duty protection using synthetic materials like vinyl or a combination of natural and synthetics, like cotton laminated with polyurethane.

Others create a thicker barrier through multiple layers, linings or quilting (often with polyester batting). Thick protectors can offer additional cushioning, but they do change the overall feel of the pillow.

We decided to create a pillow cover that provides some added protection, but allows your luxurious, natural fill pillow to breathe and perform optimally. If you prefer to sleep on natural materials and love the feeling of your CDFC pillow as-is, you may want to consider Pillow Wear™. While it belongs in the pillow protector category, it’s not an impermeable barrier or a guarantee against pillow damage. Think of it like a second pillowcase or a second skin for your pillow.

Pillow Wear™

Like underwear for your pillow – an underlayer that fits like a glove.

Material

Pillow Wear™ is:

  • 100% cotton – that’s it!
  • Available in 2 thread counts:
    • Crisp 255 thread count featherproof twill for feather and Down Perfect™ pillows.
    • Soft 400 thread count downproof sateen for down pillows.
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified free from harmful chemicals.

Design

Pillow Wear™ features:

  • A beautiful double-stitched edge.
  • A slightly larger size than your pillow to allow for shrinkage.
  • A hidden zipper closure on one side.
  • Small openings on the other side that serve 2 purposes:
    • They allow air to vent in and out. Down and feather pillows take in air, which means they fluff and compress. When pillow covers aren’t as breathable as the inner pillow, they can create a sort of bag that takes longer to compress and doesn’t allow the pillow to perform naturally.
    • They allow your coloured CDFC brand label to be pulled out of the protector. Many households have a variety of pillows to suit different sleep styles and preferences. This allows you to identify and differentiate your CDFC pillows easily, even when they’re in the protector.
  • A seamless, barely-there appearance. Your pillow deserves to look good in its underwear!

FAQ

  1. Can I use Pillow Wear™ with a pillow from another brand?
Absolutely! While pillow sizing is fairly standard across brands, there may be some variation, so check the dimensions of the protector against the dimensions of your pillow before buying. Even if there’s a small variance, it’ll still fit fine – these are flexible items! It may just not have as seamless a fit as you’d find with a CDFC pillow.

  2. Which thread count should I choose?
It’s recommended to choose the thread count based on the fill of your pillow. The 255 thread count protector was designed for pillows containing feather, including Down Perfect™ pillows. Lower thread counts are more durable, so they stand up better to feather quills. The 400 thread count protector is a tad lighter and more breathable, which makes it suitable for down pillows.

It is important to note that the two thread counts feel and sound different. 255 is more crisp, starchy and makes a rustling noise with movement, while 400 is softer and quieter. On a pillow, the fabric of the protector doesn’t move much, other than gentle bending. The sound of the fabric is not generally a concern for most pillow or pillow protector shoppers. But if you feel you'll have a strong preference for one over the other, go for it. Either thread count will work fine with either fill type in most ways except preventing leakage.

  3. What is the benefit of a downproof or featherproof protector if the pillow shell is already downproof or featherproof?
Downproof and featherproof pillow shells are woven in such a way to prevent leakage of the fill. However, the occasional piece of fill will find its way out of the shell. Of course, in rare cases, pillow shells can be defective and allow more significant leakage. If you have a CDFC pillow, leakage is covered under warranty, assuming proper care instructions have been followed. We recommend submitting a warranty claim so that we can repair or replace your pillow, rather than just covering it with a pillow protector.

Assuming your pillow doesn’t leak, the protector is simply an additional barrier for those occasional pieces of fill that come out over time, making it less likely that they will travel through the outer pillowcase. This means you can dispose of them on laundry day rather than dealing with them during the night!

Pillow Wear™ aren’t meant to compensate for a leaky pillow shell, particularly because they have openings on the side. However, if your pillow does leak and is not covered under warranty (either from improper use / care or because it’s from another brand), using a downproof or featherproof protector can provide some relief, at least while you search for a replacement.

  4. Will my pillow still yellow over time?
Yes, pillows do yellow over time due to exposure to sweat, body oils, skin and hair care products, and more. Even heavy-duty protectors will not completely prevent yellowing over long periods of time, but they can certainly help. Pillow Wear™ is not waterproof and made only of cotton, so while it does assist your pillowcase in absorbing some moisture and oils, it is not expected to significantly prolong yellowing. Be sure to wash your Pillow Wear™ regularly for best results.

  5. What if I want more heavy-duty protection than Pillow Wear™ provides?
We’re here to help! We totally understand that Pillow Wear™ may not be for everyone. Most department stores or online marketplaces that carry home goods have pillow protectors that are waterproof and mite-proof. Feel free to contact us with any specific requirements and we can try to help point you in the right direction.

If you decide it’s right for you, we hope you and your pillow love Pillow Wear™ as much as we do. As always, we would love your feedback on design, materials, fit and feel, so please contact us anytime.
